Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio, TX

One year after wintering in Yuma, AZ with our friends, Linda & I decided to roam around in TX for about a month. We could use mostly military campgrounds and stay a week or more at each one. We followed the Mexico/USA border roads to Brownsville, then over to Corpus Christi and then back up to I-10 Via Houston.

On this stop we stayed at this wonderful little USAF base just south of the Amistad Reservoir. A large man made lake bordering Mexico. Great fishing in the clear waters. The AFB has another RV Park on the lake but without FHU service. They also have a small marina and boat rentals. The base RV park is very small with 22 huge sites skirted with fences on both sides. All have FHU with 50 amps. From our site to the post exchange, commissary store, movie theater, bowling alley, or the golf course it was less than a mile. The weather was great and our weeks’ stay zoomed by.
