Prince of Tucson RV Park - Tucson, AZ

This clean, wonderfully appointed RV park has location. It’s a super easy off I10 and back on when you leave. It’s sites are level, interior roads are always in excellent condition.

The office has a mail room if you’re going to be there long enough to have your mail forwarded. The recreational room in the office building has a very large media swap shop. Trade a book, audio book, CDs or whatever they have, one for one.

There are a lot of attractions to see in the Tucson area and we spent a couple of weeks visiting just about all of them.

We had left our winter-over site in Yuma early so we couldn’t get into the large military RV Park at Davis–Monthan Air Force Base because it was still full with seasonal patrons. There is a huge military aircraft graveyard at the AFB and tours can be arraigned at the main gate.

All sites at this RV park are back-ins.

Hickory Run Campground - Denver, PA

Whenever you’re scheduling a trip or extended stopover in the PN countryside - in this case Dutch country - do some good homework about the place you want to stay.

Any parking place with campground in the name needs close scrutiny. Places like this one want to charge for everything you do at their CG. We knew it in advance and it was all in our budget for this two week stop. Almost everything is in their web site attached below. We stayed at this CG because of it’s proximity to side trips we were going to make.

Not easy to get to because you have to drive right down the narrow main street in Denver. Once in the park the interior roads are junk. The sites are not very level and phone signals are weak. I had to try three or four locations with the dish antenna before I could get a 50% signal.

Yes, we did have to drive over that bridge to get to our parking site.

Midessa Oil Patch RV Park - Odessa, TX

We’ve been across country on just about all of the Interstate highways. On this trip we were traveling East to West on I20 from it's beginning at I95 in SC to it’s end at I10 in TX. We did some stopping along the way to visit with family and friends.

This was just a two night stop for a little rest, shopping and to get the laundry caught-up.

Very nice RV Park with all the connections we like to have. Very good country store. Our sites were close to our neighbors and we couldn’t get side-by-side with out traveling friends. (We didn't have reservations).  But, the sites were easy to get into and out of, level and long enough to stay hooked-up if we wanted to do that.

North Park CG - Dickinson, ND

This was one of those finds that could best be described as “luck of the draw”. We were planning on staying somewhere in the area so we could visit the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We saw the CG from the highway and drove on in and talked with the manager. After we had told him we were retired USN families just traveling around the country he offered us a military discount. When he found that we were going to stay at least a week and both had Golden Ages Passes he gave us a 50% discount. With the 15% military discount we would have gotten the seventh day free. With the 50% discount we had to pay for each day we stayed overnight.

At the time we were there the FHU was 50 amps, sewer and water. No CATV or WiFi. We both travel with satellite TV systems and Verizon internet connections were strong there.

We spent 10 days at the CG and went to TRNP three days in a row and then went looking around the local area. When we departed our friends were going on to CA and we were headed for SC.

Mackinaw Mill Creek CG - Mackinaw, MI

A wonderful campground and resort on Lake Huron with a view of the convergence of Lake Michigan & Lake Huron. Our site was average in size with FHU service. No CATV provided. We had no problems finding an excellent signal with our dish and Verizon signals were also very strong.

Beautiful sun sets over the bridge every night.

We spent two weeks at this CG and took side trips to all of the area attractions and one all the way to Canada to take a tour of the Soo Locks.

Lazydays Service Facility - Seffner, FL

We purchased our Everest new from Lazydays. That gave us a lifetime membership at their facilities at Seffner. That means free breakfast and lunch at their cafeteria. That came to be a great advantage when we had to spend a week in one of the maintenance bays while our trailer got a new rubber roof. At the time we had the work done there were more than 50 maintenance bays with FHUs available at no extra cost while work was being done on the trailer. We had to be out of the trailer at 8AM and could return after 5PM.

The picture was taken after the work had been completed.

Camp America Campground - Salem, SD

This was an ideal stop for us. We were coming east on I90 from Rapid City to US81. Then we were going to take US81 to central KS.

Camp America is an older CG with very good paved interior roads and flat level parking sites which are mostly large enough for most any rig size. Good prices for a FHU with a nice list of discounts available.

We spent a few days roaming around the local - friendly - areas and had some excellent country meals in rustic local restaurants.

Barstow/Calico KOA - Yermo, CA

One time when going west out of Las Vegas on I15 I ran over a huge black road gator. Just barely missed it with the truck tires but both right side trailer tires ran over it. The lead tire exploded immediately and the aft tire was flat by the time I got stopped. Our friends were following and completely missed it. I was blinded from it by an 18 wheeler in front of me. It wasn’t until after he swerved to miss it that I saw it….too late.

We used our spare and our friends spare and went on looking for a place to get more tires. Barstow was the first place with a sizeable tire retailer so we stopped there at the KOA for a couple of days. Got some new tires and looked around the local area.

At that time the CG was being worked by local collage students. They were very friendly and helpful with everything.

The CG is probably the most disarranged lay-out of any we have stayed at. There was no way they were going to cut down any trees or shrubs when they put in the infrastructure. So, sites were zigzagged and misaligned throughout the CG. But there are still some large ones and the amenities were FHU with CATV just to mention the ones we covet.

Flamingo Lake RV Resort - Jacksonville, FL

Florida was our home for more than 23 years and our children & grand children live there so we visit there often. Usually we spend our stays at one of the military RV Parks. Sometimes when the military Parks are full we will stay at one of the large RV Parks out by the airport. Over the years that area has grown tremendously making those RV Parks more and more desirable.

Flamingo Lakes always has some improvement project in progress. It’s truly a RV Resort with great amenities and luxury waterfront sites available. Browsing the link below is highly recommended if you're planning a stay in the Jacksonville area.

To give you an idea of site sizes and ease of parking, our site in the picture below was E24 on the park map. The motor homes in another picture are in the luxury waterfront sites.

Dixie Caverns RV Park, Salem, VA

Nice RV park. Off the main road and quiet. Sites were level and easy to get into and out of.

We spent a week here exploring the caves and all the tourist shops. Some really nice things found at local yard sales & the flea market. One of our full time traveling hobbies was buying at yard sales/flea markets and selling our finds on eBay. Of course rocks are not something that can be collected because of their weight.

Westgate RV/CG, London, KY

Our goal here was to see a moon bow but our timing was off because a full moon is required. We went to the falls and a lot of other places in the area.

Our RV Park was situated at an intersection and is managed by the motel. Right behind us was a McDonalds and up on the hill was a Cracker Barrel restaurant. The park was quiet at night after the pool closed (10 PM). Everything else is in the link below.

Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina - Cropwell, AL

Great stop for those that like to wet a line with chances of a big one. The lake has at least two large sponsored fishing tournaments per year (Bass & Crappie). It’s a busy water recreation area in the warm summer months. And, it’s a RV parking destination for many of the Talladega racing fans.

If you can catch it in a seasonal lull as we did during this stop-over you wont need a boat for good fishing as it’s really good around the docks when they are unused. A little top water plug or plastic worm will get a bass or two and live worms/crickets will fill your pail with pan fish.

The office/store has all sorts of fishing equipment and live baits. Mostly very reasonable because of the competition around the lake.

We stay here when planning for a couple of days rest/relaxation. Out on the Interstate is another of our regular stopping places when just spending the night. It’ll be in another post.

As always the link is active and the pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Grand Casino RV Park/Harrah’s RV Park, Tunica, MS

Some time ago Harrah’s brought out the Grand Casino at Tunica. They kept the RV park and all it’s amenities in tact. So the same great parking and services are still available.

The RV sites are large either back-ins or pull-thru. They are all FHU with basic cable service. Very level on average and easy to use. Free van service right to your door with each site having a flag outside to put up if in need of a ride. Once at the casino you can get free shuttle service to all area casinos.

Below are pictures of both back-in and pull-thru sites we have used. The first three were under The Grand management, the last two are under Harrah’s management.

Okaw Valley Kampground - Brownsville, IL

Here is another very easy to use overnighter parking place. Very easy access from I70 or US49. Looking at the site map in the link we were in site #71. Very easy parking and drive out. Level with FHU service with numerous discounts offered.

I got some really nice pan fish from the pond and a 15” bass. Got in late in the afternoon and fished till dusk.

All the good stuff about the Kampground can be found in the link below.

Bean Pot Campground - Crossville, TN

We have traveled extensively across Interstate 40 and have found a lot of friendly places to spend the night that are not overly expensive, have a friendly family owned and managed atmosphere and are easy to access and depart.

If you’re traveling across TN on I40 your probably going to have to spend the night somewhere. During our traveling years - full time or otherwise - we never boon docked or used those free parking lots. It was just our way. So, we found a lot of overnight stop-offs. Sometimes, like this one, they are also family campgrounds with areas for seasonal parking and other areas with nice pull thru sites for those that just want to stop for the night or a day or two. This one has a nice office with a well stocked store.

American Legion Post #137 - Jacksonville, FL

A few years ago we started using this wonderful little RV Park behind the American Legion Post 137 on San Juan Ave. It has a total of 8 sites. Six with FHU and their local CATV hook-up. There are two more sites on the waterfront but no sewer connections.  The only drawback is we’re limited to 30 amps. And, you can only stay 30 days at a time. At the 30 day mark you must leave for 24 hours then you can return for another 30 days if you want to. The whole CG is behind the main post building. Fenced-in and gated with an assigned entry number for members. There are two gated areas, one front and another in the back.

The RV park is situated on the waterfront with a paved boat launching area into Cedar River with just a short ride to the St. Johns River. There is a floating wharf and sea wall. The water in Cedar River is brackish so both fresh water and salt water fish can be caught there. We often catch some nice reds at high tide. Some grass shrimp may get you some nice sheep’s head from around the pylons at the bridge. I launch a small boat and get pan fish and bass up stream.

We like site #6 and always stay there if it’s open. No reservations, first come first serve. Here are some pictures from a couple of stays.
